Paper Cutting is a very distinctive visual art of Chinese handicrafts. Its history may date back to the 6th century. From the 7th to 13th century, paper cutting became popular especially during Chinese festivals. The art spreads to the rest of the world in the 14th century.

Nowadays papercutting is a good practice to reduce your stress. The quick and accessible artwork will make everybody feel good.

This interactive activity led by members of the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton is to provide you with some basic paper folding methods and patterns for cut-outs, which may easily be tried out and taken home. Once you have learned the basic skills you can use your own creativity. It is also a great activity for children, and we have prepared lovely patterns for them!
