Play a digital game that simulates delivery drone flights across Southampton!

Drones are now being used in a variety of different areas from estate agents taking aerial photos of houses, to farmers seeing which areas of their fields need fertilising. A growing area of interest is using drones for deliveries.

There are lots of questions about where delivery drones will fly and what products they might move. How would you feel about drones flying overhead? What are the risk implications of drones flying in urban areas close to houses and schools? How much energy would be used to avoid key locations or to fly higher? How should this information be used to decide on a flight path?

Regulatory decisions will need to be made about delivery drone flight paths and the public does not have any experience of what the issues might be if commercial operations are allowed in the future.

Using an animated digital game, our exhibit simulates delivery drone flights using real risk and energy data. You will take control of a delivery drone and undertake missions in the Southampton area! Will you succeed without running out of energy or encountering too much risk? The experience will help you to form your own opinion.
